Textiles with moisture management features
have become hot selling since the late years in 90s 20th century. However
at that time, it was difficult for customers to compare moisture management in
different textile products; until moisture management tester coming out in 2004
which solved this problem perfectly. Before that, people only can test fabrics
liquid transfer ability and testing method was to put textile vertically in
water tank or drop water on fabrics, then test water permeability speed. Apparently
these methods are defective because of the limited testing times once.
New methods to moisture management test
According to years of experience in textile
industry, Professor Liyi in HONGKONG Polytechnic University realized the test
method limit and designed moisture management tester for these manmade fabrics
moisture management capability. Although all manufacturers emphasized their
textiles moisture absorption, there were neither standards nor reliable testing
methods to prove what they saying. Place sensors to both sides of fabrics and
conduct a certain amount of water, Dr Li successfully invented moisture
management tester.
New test methods testing process
Moisture management tester operates simply
and fast. Place the sample in tester with the side touching skin upwards, pour Physiological
saline to the center of sample to simulate the sweat discharging process. The sensors
on both sides of samples measure the hydraulic conductivity performance within
different diameters respectively (5mm, 10mm, 15mm, 20mm, 25mm and 30mm); 2
minutes later the test starting, the wet ability and water conductivity
increase. After a series of calculation, we can get data like textiles soaking
time, water absorption speed, soaking radius spreading speed, the accumulating
one-way transfer ability and fabrics overall moisture management capability.
The transferring data and overall moisture
management attract many textile products manufacturer attention. It is reported
that using these data and finger prints offered by moisture management tester, customers
can classify textile products into 7 grades: waterproof, water repellency, slow
absorption/drying, quick absorption/slow drying, quick absorption/drying,
moisture permeability and management. We can compare to textile products
according to moisture management test data after their classification, then we
will know which one is the best textile required by the using environment
rather than a series of complicated physical tests.
Moisture management tester has gained increasing
popularity among textile testing instruments manufacturers since its appearance; besides,
it offers precise test data. For more professional operation or other consult,
