Smart Fashion for the Aged? Good-looking and Versatile

Domestic and foreign smart fashion experts who attended the 2015 middle-aged fashion textile forum pointed that, “YINFA” industry rising should be listed in China and Shanghai science innovation strategy deployment, the research & development of smart fashion or textile for the aged should be paid more attention. 

“Clothing for the old people should be aesthetic and versatile”, said Yuanze-a professor in Shanghai Institute of Visual Art. Since the traditional textile industry encounters bottleneck and needs immediate transformation, we have to set out to design and develop future textile materials and clothing, for example, to explore new textile materials or clothing with elements like Physiological characteristics, healthy management, life assistance, tracking and entertainment, etc. besides, textile testing equipment becomes much more important for clothing industry. German Hohenstein Research predicts that the aged smart fashion is a millions of products market with billions of people need. The VDC reports points out that by 2018, the USA smart fashion textile value will reach 3 billion dollars.

It is believed that clothing or textile smartness demand will be as urgent as phones smart upgrading. For example, the old people expect to wear those sweaters or long underwear which adjust their temperatures, you can imagine these air-conditioning clothing will be the most part in your future closets; they also want clothing inspect the old patients physiological and action; other functional clothing such as socks with sensing fiber, hats with navigation chips, underwear helps lose weight, etc. All of these functions are expected to explore for the aged clothing, and thanks to these textile testing instruments, can we clearly get timely data to make adjustment during apparel production.  

Donghua University has designed many old people fashion textile styles. The “pearl health preserving clothes” released last year were much popular among the old. They have also explored a series original underwear with various functions such as antibacterial and anti odor, Chinese medicine fiber underwear, windproof and wet proof, anti mite knitting bedding, etc. for these function, textile testing equipment can be great assistant for exploring. Donghua University Middle-aged smart clothing exploring center has finished a 2 thousand people sample data analysis and set human data model, which lay the great foundation for middle-aged clothing research.
